The new IRAS Logo assimilates the past, present and future to demonstrate the future ready IRAS which upholds the principles of “Propriety, Proficiency and Productivity”.
The logo has been carefully designed to demonstrate the nature of the service and contemporary times.
Adorned with the National Emblem, the logo symbolizes service to the Government of India. The Railway bogie resting on the track symbolizes that IRAS is dedicated to serving the Indian Railways, the three wheels represents evolution and motion, and upholding the motto of “Propriety, Proficiency and Productivity”. The book and the computer monitor symbolizes that IRAS is the fusion of both old and new methods of analysis, its ability to continuously evolve and embrace innovations, bridging the traditional methods of accounting and book-keeping with latest technology such as data analysis, AI etc. to propel IR to an upward growth trajectory.
Finally the 25 pairs of leaves on the logo represents the 17 Zonal Railways and 8 Production units which comprise India Railways. They also symbolizes wisdom, prosperity, motion and continuity.
The logo is a demonstration of the “FUTURE READY IRAS”.

IRAS DAY - 2015 Celebrations held on 28.11.15
The Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) of Indian Railways held its IRAS day on November 28, 2015 at ManekshawCenter, New Delhi. On this day, a conference of financial advisors of all Zonal Railways was held. The agenda for discussion included efficiency measures that could be taken to optimise expenses and steps taken to enhance revenues. The impact of the recommendations of the7th Central Pay Commission was also deliberated upon.
In November 1920, the British Parliament constituted the Acworth Committee to study the finances of railways in India. As a recommendation of this Committee, a separate accounts service was constituted for Indian Railways. Hence, IRAS day is celebrated every year in the month of November.
The Financial Commissioner, Railways, Shri Sanjoy Mookerjee, addressed the gathering of present and retired IRASofficers. He shared his thoughts on cost consciousness across all domains, innovative measures for financing and expediting infrastructure works to enhance throughput. He exhorted all IRAS officers across the country to put in their utmost efforts towards ensuring the success of the innovative initiatives being taken to make Indian Railways a vibrant organisation. He also emphasised on the development of the manpower of Indian Railways.
With a view to encouraging knowledge sharing, three IRAS officers presently working outside Indian Railways, were invited to make presentations in their areas of specialisation. These included Shri Narendra fromMinistry of Defence, Shri SanjeevaShiveshCEO, The Entrepreneurship School and Shri Bharat Salhotra, MD, Alstom Transportation Services, India.
The chief guest on the occasion was retired Financial Commissioner (Railways), Shri V. Sivakumaran. He shared his experience and encouraged IRAS to work outside Railways for varied experience.
